If Palan can't evade the king, he must leave his wife and children. 

Palan has hidden his lightning speed his entire life. The king covets those with special abilities. He'd rather them die than threaten his power.

In a careless moment, the wrong man witnesses Palan's talent. Faced with an impossible choice, Palan must serve the king or hide apart from his family.

He can't risk further discovery, for his three year old daughter already shows signs of the same power.
